Admission 2027 FAQ — Bengaluru Schools & Colleges
Common questions about the 2027-28 cycle in Bengaluru: how management quota actually works, what an NRI seat is, when counselling rounds run, why some colleges publish no fee, and what this site will and will not print. Answers say plainly where information does not yet exist for 2027-28.
Questions
How many Bengaluru colleges and schools does this site cover?
162 colleges and 144 schools in Bengaluru and its immediate region. Across the colleges the site records 24 different entrance exams that are accepted, the admission routes each course publishes, and the eligibility each college states. Everything on a page is what that institution publishes, course by course.
Can I get the management-quota amount for a college that shows none?
Yes. Where an amount is on record, the college's page lists it course by course. Where a page shows none, contact The Edu Consultant with the college and the course and we will give you the fee details.
Do Bengaluru colleges publish their fees?
Some do. 86 of the 162 colleges have a fee we can cite, published by the college itself or notified for it by the Karnataka Examinations Authority or COMEDK. For the other 76, contact The Edu Consultant for fee details.
Which school boards are represented, and how many schools run more than one?
Of the 144 schools on this site 45 are CBSE and 51 are ICSE, and the rest run IGCSE (Cambridge), IB, ISC, NIOS or the Karnataka State Board. 59 schools run more than one curriculum, and a school that does appears under every board it runs.
How does college admission in Bengaluru work for 2027-28?
There are three ways into a private college in Bengaluru: a centralised counselling process that follows an entrance exam, the college's own admission process, and an institutional category such as management quota, an NRI seat or lateral entry. The course you choose decides which exams, routes and eligibility apply, so shortlist the course before the college.
What is the difference between KCET and COMEDK?
KCET is Karnataka's state entrance test, and both the exam and the counselling that follows it are run by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA). COMEDK UGET is a separate test run by a consortium of private colleges in Karnataka, and its own paper is for engineering only. One score often reaches more than one college, and a college often accepts more than one score.
Who conducts NEET-UG?
The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET-UG. It is the single qualifying exam for MBBS and BDS admission across India, and no college runs a test of its own for those courses.
Who runs medical counselling in Karnataka?
Two bodies, and a candidate can be in both processes at once. The Karnataka Examinations Authority runs the Karnataka counselling. The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) runs the All India Quota and every seat at a deemed university.
Can I get an MBBS or BDS seat without NEET?
No. Admission to MBBS and BDS is made on NEET rank through a published counselling process at every college that offers those courses, deemed universities included. No college admits to an MBBS or BDS seat on a test of its own, and nobody can place a candidate in a counselling seat outside the counselling process.
Which entrance exams should I register for?
It depends on the course. The exams that come up most in Bengaluru are KCET, COMEDK, CUET, JEE Main and NEET-UG at undergraduate level, CAT, MAT, XAT, CMAT and GMAT for postgraduate management, CLAT, AILET and LSAT-India for law, NATA for architecture, PGCET for Karnataka's postgraduate seats, and UCEED, CEED and NIFT for design. Each exam page lists the Bengaluru colleges that accept that exam.
What is lateral entry?
Lateral entry is admission into the second year of a degree for candidates who already hold a relevant diploma. The government-quota lateral seats in engineering in Karnataka are filled through a state entrance process; what a college fills itself is the management share of its lateral seats. Where a college admits by lateral entry, that appears in the eligibility printed on the course's own page.
Can students from outside Karnataka study in Bengaluru colleges?
Yes. Alongside Karnataka state counselling, colleges here name All India routes, their own institutional admission, management quota and NRI categories. Which of them is open depends on the course, and each course page lists the routes its college has published.
When will the 2027-28 admission dates be announced?
Each date is announced by the authority that conducts the exam or by the college itself, usually close to the admission window. The admissions calendar on this site shows a date once it has been published, and marks a date the authority calls tentative as expected.
Can you tell me what rank I need for a particular college?
No, and nobody can. Cut-offs are released by the counselling authority after each round, so a rank only has meaning once that round has closed. We work from what institutions and authorities have published, and we do not predict a rank, a cut-off or a chance of admission.
What is management quota?
A management-quota seat is a seat the college fills itself, rather than one filled through government counselling. The cost, the eligibility and the process are set by the institution and differ from one college to the next. It is one of several routes into a private college, and a college having the route does not mean a seat is open on your course - that is the thing to establish first.
Is management quota legal?
Yes. A management-quota seat is an institutional seat in a recognised category, charged against a receipt and set out in the college's published structure. What is prohibited is a capitation payment, which is money demanded outside that structure in exchange for a seat. If someone asks for cash or will not issue a receipt in the institution's name, that is not management quota.
Do all colleges in Bengaluru have management quota?
No. Government-run colleges have no management quota, and government-aided colleges have only the share their aid terms allow. A private college that states the route for one course may not offer it for another, because the route belongs to the course and not to the college.
What should I ask a college before paying for a management-quota seat?
Ask for the total for the full duration in writing, what is included and what is billed separately later, which academic year the figure applies to, and whether every payment will be receipted in the institution's name. Ask also what is returned if you withdraw or a counselling seat comes through later, and whether the seat is within the sanctioned intake.
Is a management-quota seat available for medical courses?
No, not as a seat a college sells directly. In Karnataka the private and NRI shares in private medical colleges are allotted through KEA under the arrangements notified for the cycle, and at deemed universities the MCC allots every seat. Anyone offering a medical seat for a price outside a published process is describing something that does not exist.
What does direct admission mean?
The phrase is used for four different routes: an entrance or interview the college runs itself, a management-quota seat, an NRI seat, and lateral entry into the second year. Each has different eligibility and a different cost, so the first question to ask is which of the four is being offered.
Can I get direct admission without an entrance exam?
Yes, for many courses. Deemed and private universities fill most commerce, management, arts, science and design seats through their own process, on a test of their own or on qualifying-exam marks. This does not extend to MBBS and BDS. Each course page lists the entrance exams and the eligibility its college has published.
How do I know whether a direct-admission offer is genuine?
Ask which of the four routes it is and what the college itself publishes for that category. An honest answer names the route and quotes the college's own published figure. An offer of a seat that a counselling authority allots, at any price, is not a real offer.
What is an NRI seat?
An NRI seat is a category for non-resident Indian candidates, or candidates sponsored by one, at a college that offers it. Eligibility is documentary: it depends on citizenship or residency status, and it is checked by the authority rather than taken on assertion. Establish which relationship qualifies as a sponsor and which documents prove it.
When should I apply for nursery or LKG admission in Bengaluru?
Early. The application window at many schools opens almost a year before the child would start. Offers then arrive with deadlines measured in days, and several schools' deadlines overlap, so decide your order of preference before the offers arrive.
What is the age criterion for nursery, LKG and UKG admission?
Every school sets a cut-off age as at a stated date and applies it strictly, so a child born a few weeks past the cut-off waits a year. Check the age criterion before building a shortlist, and ask the school for the date the age is measured as at. School pages on this site show the age criteria a school has published.
What is the difference between CBSE, ICSE, IB and IGCSE?
CBSE is the largest national board and most CBSE schools teach from NCERT textbooks. ICSE and ISC, both set by the CISCE, go deeper on English and on breadth of subjects. IGCSE (Cambridge) and IB are international curricula with more independent research and extended written work, and neither avoids examinations. The right board is the one that suits the child and the family's plans.
Does my child need to study in a Karnataka State Board school to be eligible for KCET?
No. KEA's eligibility clauses are about schooling and domicile, meaning where the child studied, for how long, and the parents' position. They are not about which board the school is affiliated to, so a child at a CBSE or ICSE school in Karnataka is not excluded by the board. The clauses are published by KEA and are the thing to read.
What does The Edu Consultant do?
The Edu Consultant advises Bengaluru families on school, college and course admission. This site sets out what each institution publishes about its courses, eligibility, admission routes and entrance exams, and our counsellors help a family decide between the options in front of them.
What does The Edu Consultant charge?
A counselling fee, agreed in writing before we begin, and it depends on the scope of the work. It is separate from anything payable to a college, and we never collect a college's fee on its behalf. Ask us for the figure for what you actually need and we will put it in writing.
Do colleges pay The Edu Consultant to be listed?
No. Families pay us for guidance. Colleges do not pay us to be listed, we take no commission from any institution, and no position on this site is for sale. The order in which colleges appear is editorial and is never sold.
What should I check before trusting any admission consultant?
Four things. That they name the admission route rather than just quoting a price. That they quote the college's own published figure and can say where it came from. That every payment to a college is receipted in the institution's name. And that they say plainly which seats they cannot influence, because any seat filled through centralised counselling is one nobody can arrange.
Is The Edu Consultant certified?
Yes. The Edu Consultant holds ISO 29990:2010 for learning services and ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, both certified by International Quality Certification Services UK Ltd.
Where is The Edu Consultant's office?
Our registered office is TF-1, Third Floor, Business Point, Richmond Town, 137, Ashok Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560025. Richmond Town is central, so families travelling from anywhere in Bangalore can reach us without crossing the city.
Which areas of Bengaluru do you advise families in?
All of them, and the institutions on this site sit across the city and its immediate region. Most families reach us by phone or WhatsApp first and come to the Richmond Town office once there is a shortlist to work through.
How do I choose a course after Class 12?
Start from what the student is good at and wants to keep studying, then check which courses that makes them eligible for: the subjects studied in Class 12 decide which courses are open at all, before marks come into it. Shortlist two or three course families before looking at a single college, because the course fixes the exams, the routes and the eligibility. If the list is still wide after that, talk it through with a counsellor.
Can I apply to more than one college?
Yes, and most families should. Each college's own process is a separate application with its own deadline, and registering for counselling does not register you with a college's own process, or the other way round. Keep one list of every registration, its deadline and its receipt.
What documents are usually needed for college admission?
The Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets, the entrance-exam admit card and scorecard where an exam applies, identity proof, photographs, and any category, domicile or NRI certificate the route depends on. Each college and authority publishes its own checklist and that list is the one to follow. Category and domicile certificates are usually the slowest to obtain, so start those first.
Can I compare a yearly fee with a whole-course fee?
No, not directly. Put both on the same basis first: the same academic year, both per year or both for the whole course, and the same charges included. This site does not build a whole-course total by multiplying a yearly figure by the number of years.
Can I get a refund if I cancel a college admission?
That depends on the college's written refund policy and on how close to the start of the course you withdraw. Read the policy before you pay anything, keep every receipt in the institution's name, and withdraw in writing. Our own service charge is separate and is covered by our refund policy.
Does The Edu Consultant guarantee admission?
Yes, on the cases we accept. We check the admission route and your eligibility first, and we take a case on only when the college's own route is open to you, so the decision to accept the work comes before any fee. If we cannot stand behind it we tell you then, rather than take the money and try. The guarantee, its conditions and the remedy are set out in the service agreement you sign.
Which admissions will you not take on?
Any seat a counselling authority allots. KCET and COMEDK allotments, and MBBS and BDS through NEET, are decided by the authority's rank list, and no college or consultant can commit to one. We will help you plan, register and file your choices for those, but we put no guarantee on them, and anyone who does is describing something that does not exist. Our guarantee covers the institutional routes: a college's own admission process, management quota, an NRI seat and lateral entry.
What happens if an admission you guaranteed does not come through?
We offer you an equivalent college and course, and if you would rather not take the alternative, our fee is refunded. The conditions and the timeline are in the signed agreement. Checking the route before we accept a case rather than after is what makes the guarantee possible, and it is also why this situation is rare.
Can I use this site without talking to a counsellor?
Yes. Every college, course, exam and school page is open to read without signing up. Talk to a counsellor when you want help deciding, not before.
How does The Edu Consultant handle my information?
We use what you send us to answer your enquiry and advise you on it. To ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted, contact our grievance officer, Mr Ahmed, on +91 98453 71459.
How do I compare two colleges on this site?
Use Compare. It is most useful once you have a course in mind, because it shows the same facts for each college side by side and makes the gaps obvious: a college that has not published something leaves a visibly empty row rather than a confident-sounding sentence.
How do I talk to a counsellor?
Call +91 98453 71459 or send a WhatsApp message to +91 95355 63657. Tell us the college and the course you are considering, and what you have been told so far.
